COWI is highly experienced in developing underground space to meet the demands of growing communities.

The global population is growing and urbanisation is increasing as a greater proportion of people are now living in towns and cities. Space above and below ground is increasing in value as buildings grow taller and the vast networks of service and transport tunnels grows denser each year.

  • Capability
  • Planning utility alignments to minimise impact on existing infrastructure and buildings
  • Detailing construction methodology
  • Permanent and temporary works design
  • Monitoring specifications
  • Site supervision.

All sectors

We work across all utility sectors including water, power, telecoms, gas and petrochemical both on and offshore and have the accreditation and experience to manage interfaces with affected stakeholders such as transport authorities and governing bodies.

Our service encapsulates all forms of utility design; from direct laid armoured cables to large diameter super-sewers. To achieve this breadth of service we hold UK leading capability in the design of microtunnelling, headings, deep excavation, soft and hard ground tunnelling and associated mitigation design such as underpinning and compensation grouting.

Collaboration

Our collaborative approach with contractors has ensured that we deliver cost effective and practical design solutions, which minimise impact on communities whilst keeping the workforce safe. We are proud to satisfy, and exceed client’s expectations, with much of our success built around a shared understanding and desire to achieve professional, timely, efficient, innovative and cost effective solutions.
