We are recognised as an industry leader in bridge design, both in the UK and across the globe.

With projects such as the Mersey Gateway Bridge in the UK and Schuman Bridge in France on our design list, you'd be forgiven for thinking we only work on large highway projects. But we have a pedigree in the design of innovative pedestrian bridges too. Greenwich Reach Swing Bridge and the Garden Bridge (both in London); Inner Harbour Bridge, Copenhagen and the Sail Bridge in Swansea are some of our larger pedestrian bridges. And don't forget the Bridge of Aspiration - one of our flagship bridges, even though it has one of the shortest spans we've worked on in our 50 year history, at only 12 metres!

We have worked in conjunction with our parent company on various bridges since joining the COWI Group in 2008, including Osman Gazi Bridge in Turkey, Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link between Denmark and Germany, and Messina Strait Bridge in Italy. We are also working in a JV with CH2M and Arcadis on Lower Thames Crossing, one of the Government's top 40 infrastructure projects.

A continuous flow of bridge projects ensures that COWI has a large core team of highly flexible bridge engineers dedicated to bridge design work.

Our 'Integrated bridge design and analysis software' (IBDAS) facilitates a high quality fast-track design with consistency between analysis and project deliverables.

Extreme loads

For many structures, extreme loads become a governing factor for design and operation. Our specialist engineers have expertise in various fields, including aerodynamics, soil structure interaction, structural dynamics and vibrations, scour protection and earthquake protection.
